Reason: Challenged for sex education, AIDS awareness, and the supernatural.

I know that puberty can be a scary and confusing time in a young person’s life, but supernatural? I get the feeling that supernatural was tossed onto the list to get those people who wouldn’t necessarily get riled up over teaching their kids about AIDS and sex, but would object to anything involving the supernatural.  Sadly, most of these people are the exact same ones who wouldn’t actually read the book to see if it was true.  The closest these books come to talking about the supernatural is to mention the bible quote which is often used to argue against masturbation.  Over all, the books are interesting, well written, straight forward, and will speak to your kid when you’re not sure how to.  The author definately has a liberal bias, but explores both points of view and stresses that kids should talk to their parents about controversial topics to see how their parents feel on the subject.  There are a couple of minor things I disagree with (one being that tells kids they don’t need to wear deodorant so long as they’re clean), but for the most part the books are great.  I even learned a few things about my own body in the process.  Recommended for ages 9-12, but will be useful for teens up to 15 years.  If you buy a used version, be sure to pick up the most recent editions, as well as the workbooks which complement these books.
