Banned Book Review: Sex

November 9, 2005

19. Sex by Madonna

Reason: Madonna in revealing and erotic poses

Oddly enough, most of the information I found about this book seemed to assume that it would be obvious to anyone why the book was banned.  There is nudity, sex scenes, and some deeply heartfelt poetry.  The book itself is a work of art.  Some of the pictures are stark and graphic.  Some only imply sex.  Some are deeply disturbing spiritually and reveal a vulnerable side to Madonna that true fans get a glimpse of in her music and videos.  Many of the poses echo scenes from her music videos, including several done after the book’s release.  The book is not just pictures and poetry.  There are also several stories, essays, and spiraling explorations of sex and sexuality.  The book is definitely not meant for children.
